The bear spray demo starts at 11:00. There'll be a talk + QA about bear safety -- even a refresher is good! -- and an opportunity to use a bear spray canister (filled with inert gas). Everybody is welcome to the talk + QA but those use the inert gas must be 16+.

Afterwards (approx 12:30pm) join me and my littles for a hike around Kalamoir.

Note: Please mark yourself as attending if you are going to be attending; and please also don't mark yourself as attending if you aren't going to be attending. Meg needs to know numbers closer to the event to ensure she has enough canisters on hand for the demo.

Trail Description

A relaxing hike offering serene views of Okanagan Lake, Kalamoir Park provides a walkway through the Black Cottonwood forest over remnants of ancient volcanic disruptions.

Wildflowers are in bloom during the summer and include Arrowleaf Balsam Root and Sagebrush Mariposa Lilies, the Oregon Grape comes into bloom late August. Prickly Cactus Pear and Poison Ivy are present in the park - please watch where you tread. The trail is also great for bird watching.

Birds are prominent in the park for birdwatchers and sightings include that of the Great Horned Owl. Bears and other animals can be active in the area, in 2009 a cougar was found and shot after attacking a dog. Dogs are allowed on a leash and there is a dog park located near the shoreline.
