Mount Boucherie: Highway Side Ascent

West Kelowna

Once a 2000m high volcano, Mount Boucherie now offers 800m of mountain to climb.

The 60-million-year-old volcano remnant offers several trails to take to the top and results in a 360 degree view of the Okanagan Valley when you reach the peak.

Once at the car park, a few trails give you varying degrees of difficulty. For a quick but intense 1 km hike to the top, take the path to the right. Loose rocks and gravel make for a steep climb, this trail is not recommended for the faint of heart.

To the left of the parking lot is an easier route which loops back over a 3km span. It is steep in parts but more manageable than the first route mentioned.

If you enjoy geology, several volcanic rock samples lie at the bottom of Mount Boucherie's cliffs.

Directions:
1. Facing the high school main entrance to Mount Boucherie Senior Secondary, follow the sidewalk left until you find a trail head. Continue heading up the hill in the most obvious direction for about 1 km.
2. Eventually you will come to a major fork in the trail. Take the right path up the mountain. You will shortly come to the shale rock bed which is slightly dangerous.
3. Continue on the trail for a very steep ascent to the viewpoint at the top.
4. Coming back town, make an early left down a game trail that will parallel the path you took up the mountain for approximately 1km as well. It will eventually connect with the first trail a few hundred meters before the entrance (see the map).

GPS Notes
We have often color-coded our GPX tracks. While it is not always the case, we have tried to use the following convention on our newer maps:

Green/Blue: human-verified by our volunteers.
Purple: overgrown trail, bushwhack, or on private property.
Red: default color or not reality-checked
Yellow: Road
Other Colors: May have been satellite traced or imported from third party sources.

While we strongly believe our GPS are accurate, please be aware that no logging system is perfect and to be aware of potential errors. Use at your own risk.
